AEC 2025 Annual Congress

A delegation from the Conservatory took part in the prestigious AEC 2025 Annual Congress, which took place from November 5 to 8, 2025, at the Mozarteum University Salzburg in Salzburg, Austria.

SALZBURG. The European Congress of Conservatories and Music Academies (AEC) has been held in Salzburg, Mozart's birthplace. This annual event brings together European institutions of higher music education to discuss the challenges and future prospects of the sector.

The theme of this year's edition was ‘The Sound of Future Music Education: Leadership, Innovation and Wellbeing’: the aim was to explore how higher music education can evolve while bringing together wellbeing, innovation, and leadership.

In fact, the three main themes around which the congress was structured were: Healthy Musician in a Sustainable World (well-being and sustainability for musicians and students), Educating Professionals between Tradition and Innovation (combining musical tradition and new practices, including digital and technological ones), Leadership and Advocacy in a Global World (the role of leadership, international collaboration and activism in music education).

Representing Italy and the Lorenzo Perosi Conservatory of Music in Campobasso was a delegation composed of President Rita D'Addona, Raimondo Fabrizio, advisor to the Ministry of University and Research, and Professor Tiziana Columbro, piano teacher and International Relations Coordinator.

The delegation actively participated in the conference proceedings and voting for the renewal of the AEC board, which now has 271 active members and 43 associates. Numerous panels and workshops, together with round tables and discussions, enlivened the days of the congress, addressing key issues such as sustainability, the mental and physical well-being of musicians, professional placement, and diversity and inclusion in arts education.

The Congress concluded with the reappointment of the outgoing board and the election of new board members, in an atmosphere of dialogue and synergy between the different European entities. The final evening, hosted at the Residence Castle in Salzburg, brought together authorities and delegates from member countries for a moment of farewell and celebration of music as a tool for growth, cooperation, and peace.

Una delegazione del Conservatorio ha preso parte al prestigioso Congresso annuale AEC 2025, che si è svolto dal 5 all’8 novembre 2025 presso l’Mozarteum University Salzburg, a Salzburg, Austria.

SALISBURGO. Si è concluso a Salisburgo, città natale di Mozart, il Congresso europeo dei Conservatori e delle Accademie di musica (AEC), appuntamento annuale che riunisce le istituzioni europee dell’alta formazione musicale per discutere le sfide e le prospettive future del settore.

Il tema dell’edizione era “The Sound of Future Music Education: Leadership, Innovation and Wellbeing”: l'obiettivo era quello di esplorare come l’educazione musicale superiore possa evolvere tenendo insieme benessere, innovazione e leadership.

Infatti, i tre filoni principali attorno ai quali si articolava il congress sono stati: Healthy Musician in a Sustainable World (benessere e sostenibilità per musicisti e studenti), Educating Professionals between Tradition and Innovation (coniugare tradizione musicale e nuove pratiche, anche digitali e tecnologiche), Leadership and Advocacy in a Global World (ruolo della leadership, della collaborazione internazionale e dell’attivismo nella formazione musicale).

A rappresentare l’Italia e il Conservatorio di Musica “Lorenzo Perosi” di Campobasso è stata una delegazione composta dalla presidente Rita D’Addona, dal consigliere del ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca Raimondo Fabrizio e dalla professoressa Tiziana Columbro, docente di pianoforte e International Relations Coordinator. La delegazione ha partecipato attivamente ai lavori congressuali e alle operazioni di voto per il rinnovo del direttivo dell’AEC, che oggi conta 271 membri attivi e 43 associati. Numerosi i panel e workshop, in unione a tavole rotonde e momenti di discussione che hanno animato le giornate del congresso, affrontando temi chiave come la sostenibilità, il benessere psicofisico dei musicisti, il placement professionale e la diversità e inclusione nella formazione artistica.

Il Congresso si è concluso con la riconferma del direttivo uscente e l’elezione dei nuovi consiglieri, in un clima di dialogo e sinergia tra le diverse realtà europee. La serata finale, ospitata al Residence Castle di Salisburgo, ha riunito le autorità e i delegati dei Paesi membri per un momento di saluto e di celebrazione della musica come strumento di crescita, cooperazione e di pace.

IRC Meeting 2025

“The Great Mobility Compass: Exploration, Navigation, and Direction in the Future of Internationalisation”

From September 17 to 20, 2025, the prestigious Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest (Hungary) hosted the 25th Annual IRC (International Relations Coordinators) Meeting, organized by the AEC – Association Européenne des Conservatoires. The event involved over 250 representatives from around 40 countries, featuring a rich program of meetings, workshops, and performances dedicated to the internationalization of higher music education.

The highlight of the event was the Erasmus Orchestra concert, featuring more than 50 young musicians from various European countries, performing works by Bartók, Brahms, Elgar, Giordano, and Puccini. Among the performers was our own student, Antonio Iampietro on violin. Before the concert, some students shared moving testimonies about the value of their Erasmus experience in their artistic and personal lives.

Among the main activities, the new “IRC Manifesto 2025” was presented, which will guide the future actions of the AEC in the field of internationalization. The handover took place between the outgoing president and the new Chair of the IRC Working Group, Dimitrios Marinos (Conservatory of Athens), and it was announced that the next IRC Meeting in 2026 will be held at the Conservatory “F.A. Bonporti” in Trento.

The participation of the Conservatorio "Lorenzo Perosi" in the 2025 IRC Meeting in Budapest represented an important opportunity for institutional and professional growth. The event allowed us to consolidate international contacts with representatives from conservatories and music academies across Europe; to exchange experiences and best practices in managing Erasmus+ mobility; to update ourselves on digital tools, guidelines, and funding opportunities; and to participate in training activities and workshops on current topics.

Dal 17 al 20 settembre 2025, presso la prestigiosa Liszt Academy of Music di Budapest (Ungheria), si è svolto il 25° Meeting Annuale dell’IRC (International Relations Coordinators), promosso dall’AEC – Association Européenne des Conservatoires. L’evento ha coinvolto oltre 250 rappresentanti da circa 40 paesi, con un ricco programma di incontri, workshop e performance, dedicati all’internazionalizzazione della formazione musicale superiore.

Momento culminante dell’evento è stato il concerto dell’Erasmus Orchestra, con oltre 50 giovani musicisti provenienti da diversi paesi europei, che si sono esibiti in un programma con musiche di Bartók, Brahms, Elgar, Giordano e Puccini, con la partecipazione anche di un nostro studente, Antonio Iampietro, al violino. Prima del concerto, alcuni studenti hanno condiviso toccanti testimonianze sul valore dell’esperienza Erasmus nelle loro vite artistiche e personali.

Tra le attività di spicco, è stato presentato il nuovo “IRC Manifesto 2025”, che guiderà le azioni future dell’AEC nel campo dell’internazionalizzazione; si è svolto il passaggio di consegne tra il presidente uscente e il nuovo Chair dell’IRC Working Group, Dimitrios Marinos (Conservatorio di Atene) ed è stato annunciato che la prossima edizione dell’IRC Meeting 2026 si terrà presso il Conservatorio “F.A. Bonporti” di Trento.

La partecipazione del Conservatorio "Lorenzo Perosi" all’IRC Meeting di Budapest 2025 ha rappresentato un'importante occasione di crescita istituzionale e professionale. L’evento ha permesso di consolidare contatti internazionali con rappresentanti di conservatori e accademie musicali di tutta Europa; Confrontarsi con esperienze e buone pratiche nella gestione della mobilità Erasmus+; aggiornarsi su strumenti digitali, linee guida e opportunità di finanziamento; partecipare ad attività formative e workshop su tematiche attuali.

AEC – Association Européenne des Conservatoires

The AEC – Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen is the European network of conservatoires, music academies, and higher music education institutions. Founded in 1953, it is today one of the leading international organizations in the field of Higher Music Education (HME). Its legal headquarters is in Brussels, and it represents over 300 higher music education institutions in more than 50 countries, primarily in Europe, but also across other parts of the world.

The AEC carries out the following key activities:

Erasmus Orchestra

The Erasmus Orchestra (EO) is a unique musical ensemble made up of students from European conservatoires and music institutes who are participating in, or have completed, an Erasmus+ mobility experience.It was founded in 2017 by the Italian National Agency for Erasmus+ (INDIRE), on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Erasmus Programme.

The aim is to embody and promote the values of the “Erasmus Generation”: openness, dynamism, solidarity; to promote the training and mobility opportunities Erasmus+ offers for higher education in art and music.

Since 2023, students from the Lorenzo Perosi Conservatory have actively participated in the Erasmus Orchestra.
They have:

Taken part in high-profile international events,
Received excellent feedback from conductors and audiences,
Represented the conservatory with great success and professionalism,
Benefited from valuable artistic and networking opportunities in a multicultural environment.

Their involvement has enhanced the international visibility of the Conservatory and underlined the quality of its Erasmus+ programme.
This Orchestra and the participation of our Conservatorio L. Perosi is a symbol of European unity and cultural diversity, using music as a universal language to express belonging, dialogue, peace, and democracy. It strengthens international ties among musical institutions and helps young musicians build professional networks and experience.

L'Erasmus Orchestra (EO) è un ensemble musicale unico, composto da studenti di conservatori e istituti musicali europei che stanno partecipando o hanno partecipato a un’esperienza di mobilità Erasmus+.
È stata fondata nel 2017 dall’Agenzia Nazionale Erasmus+ INDIRE, in occasione del 30° anniversario del Programma Erasmus.

L'obiettivo dell'Orchestra è incarnare e promuovere i valori della “Generazione Erasmus”: apertura, dinamismo, solidarietà; nonché valorizzare le opportunità di formazione e mobilità che il programma Erasmus+ offre per l’istruzione superiore nel campo delle arti e della musica.

Dal 2023, studenti del Conservatorio Lorenzo Perosi partecipano attivamente all’Erasmus Orchestra.
Essi hanno:

Preso parte a eventi internazionali di alto profilo,
Ricevuto ottimi feedback da direttori d’orchestra e pubblico,
Rappresentato il Conservatorio con grande successo e professionalità,
Beneficiato di preziose opportunità artistiche e relazionali in un contesto multiculturale.

La loro partecipazione ha rafforzato la visibilità internazionale del Conservatorio e sottolineato l’eccellenza del suo programma Erasmus+.

Questa Orchestra, e la partecipazione del nostro Conservatorio “L. Perosi”, rappresentano un simbolo di unità europea e diversità culturale, utilizzando la musica come linguaggio universale per esprimere appartenenza, dialogo, pace e democrazia.
Essa rafforza i legami internazionali tra istituzioni musicali e aiuta i giovani musicisti a costruire reti professionali e a maturare esperienze significative.

“Playing in the EO has been, from the very first concert, a valuable opportunity for growth, as well as an incredible stroke of luck. Not only has it allowed me to grow professionally and as an orchestral musician, but it has also been an experience that has left an indelible mark on me, regardless of any interaction with the audience. Meeting people from different parts of Europe, with unique cultures and traditions, has been a constant and stimulating enrichment.
